Every topic a channel, every tangent a thread.

Freesbe channels hold the conversation around a topic: public ones anyone can find and join, private ones only their members see. Direct messages take up to 9 people. Replies go in threads so the channel stays readable, mentions notify the right people, and what you have read stays in step across your computer and your phone.

  • Find any conversation by its topic, not by who happened to be in the room.
  • Keep side conversations in threads so the channel stays readable.
  • Reach one person or a group of up to 9 in a direct message.
  • Pick up where you left off: a New messages line marks the spot on every device.

For Any team that has outgrown email threads and group texts.

A Freesbe channel at Northwind Traders with messages, reactions and a thread open

Public for the company, private for the few

A public channel can be found and joined by anyone in the workspace. Browse channels searches by name or topic, and you can read a public channel before you join it. A private channel shows only to the people in it, marked with a lock. Admins and the channel's creator can rename or archive it, and an archived channel can be brought back later. The general channel includes everyone, so it can never be left.

  • Channel names are made for you: Q3 Launch becomes q3-launch
  • Include archived channels when you browse, to find old ones
  • A topic under the name tells newcomers what the channel is for
Browse channels: search by name or topic, with Joined badges and a Join button

Threads keep the channel readable

Reply in thread and the side conversation opens in the right pane, out of the channel's way. The message shows how many replies it has, and you are notified of replies in threads you started or replied in. Point at any message for the rest: react, edit your own, forward a copy to another channel, copy a link straight to it, or mark it unread to come back later.

Direct messages for one person or a few

A direct message is a private conversation outside channels. Pick up to 8 other people, and opening a DM with the same people later takes you back to the same conversation. The header shows the other person's status and local time, so you know whether it is late where they are. A DM with only yourself is a private notes space.

Group DMs that grow with the work

Anyone in a group DM can add people, and the people you add see the whole conversation, earlier messages included. If those messages should stay private, Freesbe offers to start a new group instead. The top of the group shows everyone's picture with a green dot for whoever is active. Remove someone and they lose access right away, and everyone still in it sees a note.

Questions

How many people can be in a direct message?
Up to 9, you included. A DM with two or more other people is a group DM, and anyone in it can add people, except guests.
Can I read a channel without joining it?
Yes, any public channel. The message box offers to join when you want to post. Private channels show only to their members.
Can guests see my channels?
No. Guests see only the channels they were invited to and the people in them. They cannot browse or join other channels.
Which plan includes this?
Every plan, including Free. The Free plan keeps 90 days of message history; paid plans keep all of it.
